An irreverant look at magic through the ages from one of Scotland's top magicians. The show's basically an excuse to have a good laugh and do some proper old school magic. Check out the flier for more information - we wouldn't want to give away too much now, would we?
Not really. The show's aimed at adults and younger kids are unlikely to appreciate or understand what's going on. Kids from 14 are welcome with an adult, but as I mentioned, some of the material is quite dangerous. If they're likely to try and recreate anything then best not bring them.
Why not. The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is the world's largest arts festival but the sad fact of the matter is that it's getting way too expensive. It used to be a great place to go and take in 3, 4 or 5 shows a day and really experiment. With ticket prices today you'd need a second mortgage to experience the Fringe the way you would five or ten years ago. It's not the performers that are pushing up the prices either! Soaring venue charges leave little option but to charge the earth for tickets. In many cases, the performer isn't even allowed to set lower ticket prices even at their own expense. The Free Festival addresses this issue. Run by Alex Petty, the Laughing Horse Free Festival doesn't charge the performers for the space in the venues. It also doesn't charge the audience to get in. Among other things this means that people can experiment again! There's a much more involved discussion (rant?) on this matter on the Free Festival blog There are some frankly excellent acts coming to Edinburgh this year as part of the Free Festival. Pick a few, go and see them. Experiment.... Enjoy yourself! I'll see you there.
